Object Storage

A storage model that keeps data as individually addressable objects with metadata rather than organizing it primarily as files in folders or blocks on a disk.

Cloud & Systems

In plain English

Object storage is commonly used for large amounts of unstructured data such as images, videos, backups, and documents. Each object has its data, metadata, and an identifier that applications can use to retrieve it.

Example

A photo-sharing service could store millions of uploaded images in object storage and retrieve each image through its unique object key.
