Cache

A temporary storage layer that keeps previously retrieved or computed data so future requests can be served faster.

Software & Data

In plain English

A cache saves a copy of information that may be needed again. If the cached copy is still valid, a system can use it instead of repeating a slower network request, database query, or computation.

Example

A website could cache a frequently requested product list for a few minutes so thousands of visitors do not trigger the same database query each time.
