CDN

Content delivery network: geographically distributed network of servers that caches and delivers content from locations closer to users.

Cloud & Systems

In plain English

CDN stands for content delivery network. Instead of every visitor downloading a website's files from one origin server, copies can be cached at locations around the world so users receive them from a nearby server.

Example

A news site can use a CDN to serve images and JavaScript from edge locations near readers, reducing the distance each file has to travel.
